ST. LOUIS — Eugene "Gene" E. Roth, 84, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023, in St. Louis. He was the son of the late Theophil and Esther Bodenschatz Roth; beloved husband of Pauline Kaufmann Roth; devoted father of the late Kathy and the late Timothy, who both died in infancy, and Constance (James) Kuchar; brother of the late Nelson Roth; and beloved uncle, great-uncle and friend to many...

ST. LOUIS — Eugene "Gene" E. Roth, 84, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023, in St. Louis.

He was the son of the late Theophil and Esther Bodenschatz Roth; beloved husband of Pauline Kaufmann Roth; devoted father of the late Kathy and the late Timothy, who both died in infancy, and Constance (James) Kuchar; brother of the late Nelson Roth; and beloved uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.

Eugene was a graduate of Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. Later, he retired from Missouri Division of Youth Services.

Gene was an avid softball player and bowler, and was inducted into St. Louis Slow-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as being a pet lover. He and his wife attended South County Bible Church for many years, where, as a music lover, he enjoyed being a member of the choir.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 20, at South County Bible Church, 4111 Von Talge Road in St. Louis. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirkwood, Missouri.

Memorials are appreciated, in lieu of flowers, to South County Bible Church Mission Fund or Gateway Pet Guardians.
