Eugene "Gene" Petzoldt, 79, of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, formerly of Altenburg, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Veterans Home.
He was born June 29, 1930, in Altenburg, son of the late Henry Otto and Hedewege "Hattie" Niederstadt Petzoldt. He and Eleanor Kaufman were married April 19, 1956. She preceded him in death June 30, 1989.
Mr. Petzoldt had been a dairy farmer 43 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg, VFW Post 4282 and American Legion Post 133. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Su Petzoldt of Niceville, Fla., and Mark and Amy Petzoldt of Altenburg; four sisters, Henrietta Conners of Vermont, Myra Bunn and Pauline Thurm, both of Orlando, Fla., Kathryn Werner of Jackson; and a granddaughter, Whitney Petzoldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Friends may call from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Jonathan Stites officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
