PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Eugene W. Meyer, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville. PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Eugene W. Meyer, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville.

He was born July 10, 1931, in Perryville, son of Leo L. and Ida M. (Winkler) Meyer.

He attended St. Boniface Grade School, then graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1949. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he was promoted to operations supervisor and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He then attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated with bachelor's degree in arts/sciences. He then accepted employment with the federal government as chief of program analysis with the Department of the Army until his retirement, when he moved to St. Louis. He enjoyed music, the theater, traveling and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was a member of St. Vincent Alumni, Knights of Columbus Council 1263 -- 4th Degree, American Legion Post 133 and Campbell House Museum in St. Louis and was a contributor to many organizations.

Survivors include two sisters, Gertrude Leible of Perryville and Rosella Coffey of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Irma Meyer of Perryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Rudolph, Elmer, Robert, Herbert, Clemens and Andrew Meyer; and three sisters, Marie Leible, Cornelia Favier and Marcella Bendel.

Visitation will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Young and Sons Funeral Home.

He then will be taken to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Sept. 10, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post 133 and the Air Force Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Vincent High School or Campbell House Museum in St. Louis.
