Eugene "Gene" John Gessert, born Aug. 6, 1934, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in Houston. He was born and raised in Portsmouth, Iowa, and married Rita Mechura on July 21, 1956. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, of 59 years; sons, Robert (Lise) and Kelly (Ann) Gessert; daughters, Lori (Mark) Meador and Stacey (Daryl) Downs; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren...

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Houston.
