MARBLE HILL -- Ethil Matthews, 88, of Marble Hill died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 16, 1910, near Marquand, daughter of George W. and Fannie Ella Cornman Hargiss. She and Chester R. Matthews were married Dec. 23, 1926. He died April 18, 1969.
Matthews was a member of Marble Hill First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, William Matthews of Moro, Ill., Chester and Charles Matthews, both of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Truman Hargiss of Wood River, Ill.; four sisters, Georgia Klasing of Fenton, Mahdeen Thedford of Porter, Texas, Christine Worley of St. Ann, Alyene Eaker of Bethalto, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Charles Hawn will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Allen Cemetery.
