Esther E. Macke, 102, of Pocahontas passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born June 24, 1908, in Uniontown, Mo., daughter of Charles and Louisa Bergmann Rauh. She and Wiley Macke were married June 12, 1927. He passed away in September 1995.
Esther was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, where she taught Sunday school many years and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening and keeping her cookie jar full for all the neighborhood kids.
Loving survivors include two sons, Thomas Macke of Cape Girardeau, James Macke of Perryville, Mo.; a son-in-law, Melbert Haertling of Olathe, Kan.; three granddaughters, Joyce Macke of Cape Girardeau, Susan McClain of Olathe, Sally (Robert) Sullivan of Kansas City; a grandson, John (Sharon) Haertling of Golden, Colo.; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Macke; a daughter, Mary Haertling; a daughter-in-law, Iola Macke; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with the Rev. Mann officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
