NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- Ervin "Webb" Leon Scheeter, 90, of New Hamburg passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri.

He was born April 17, 1924, in New Hamburg to the late Otto and Mamie Westrich Scheeter. Ervin married Frances Cecilia Kluesner on June 30, 1951, in Chaffee.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 in heavy artillery and was gun crewman in 517th Heavy Field Artillery. He served in the Solomon Islands, Philippines, Manila and Japan and was gun commander on 155-M. He was awarded two bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation ribbon with one bronze star, Asiatic Pacific Theater campaign ribbon, American Theater campaign ribbon, Victory ribbon and two overseas service bars.

Ervin was owner of Scheeter Feed Store in New Hamburg. He was an avid gardener, lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; two daughters, Pam (Tony) Dalton of Trophy Club, Texas, and Janice (Mel) Williams of Plano, Texas; one brother, Al (Claudine) Scheeter of Danville, Illinois; three sisters, Arabella Stike of Cape Girardeau, Lois Eastwood of Chaffee and Ada Lee (Clayton) Hasenkamp of Benton, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Brett Williams, Devin Dalton and Grant Williams.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kay Scheeter; four brothers; and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. Parish rosary will be at 6 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in New Hamburg with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
