JACKSON -- Funeral service for Ervin Proffer of Jackson will be held at 1 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Don Cox will officiate, with burial in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Proffer, 88 years old, died Friday, Jan. 11, 1991, at Deal Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1903, at Advance, son of John and Lovie Grayum Proffer. He married Ermil Bollinger in 1928, who died in 1965. He later married Mary Crawford Hays March 5, 1976.
Proffer farmed in Bollinger County, retiring in 1976 and moving to Jackson. He was a member of Church of Christ here.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. James Hays of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Ilamyra Smith of Crocker, Rosemary Dougan of Jackson; a brother, Luther Proffer of Illinois; a sister, Opal Gosslee of Hot Springs, Ark.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
