Ernest Glastetter

ORAN, Mo. -- Ernest Glastetter, son of the late Frank and Clara Amhrein Glastetter, was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Oran and departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86.

Ernest worked at Sport Specialist Shoe Co. in Chaffee, Missouri, for 13 1/2 years. He then went to work for Atlas Plastic (Spartech) in Cape Girardeau, where he remained for 25 years until retirement. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed nonfiction books. He also enjoyed working in his garden, fishing and hunting, especially squirrel hunting.

On Aug. 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Seyer in Chaffee. She survives of the home in Oran.

Besides his wife of 62 years, survivors include three sons, Fred (Mary Beth) Glastetter and Gary (Nena) Glastetter, both of Oran, and Dennis (Nancy) Glastetter of Chaffee; daughter, Carol (Danny) Bierschwal of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Dustin Glastetter of Kansas City, Missouri, Megan Eftink of Nashville, Tennessee, Bethany Beggs of Cape Girardeau, Nathan and Jordan Glastetter of Chaffee and Tiffany (Jeff) Schaefer and Natalee (Codey) Cook, both of Oran; great-grandchildren, Regan Glastetter of St. Peters, Missouri, Bristol and Leelyn Schaefer of Oran and Lawson and Aubrey Cook of Oran; sisters, Evelyn (John) Hooker of O'Fallon, Missouri, Virginia (Walter) Uptain of Weatherford, Texas, and Maxine (Ed) Whalen of Hazelwood, Missouri.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Glastetter; three sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary service at 4 p.m., today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Guardian Angel Catholic School or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
