Emma L. Severin, the first woman married in an airplane in the United States in 1923, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1992 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Severin, 90, of 1681 Perryville, married Glover Gill in 1923 in St. Louis and they were the first couple married in an airplane. He died May 1, 1948.
She was born Aug. 19, 1902 in Jonesboro, Ill., the daughter of Phillip Scharf and Mary Goodman.
In 1960, she married Charles Severin. He died Sept. 30, 1976.
She was a member of Union United Methodist Church in St. Louis and retired in 1962 from Famous Barr as assistant buyer of women's clothing.
She is survived by one brother, Oscar Scharf, Longwood Fla.; one sister, Lillian Ryan, Cape Girardeau; one niece and four nephews.
Seven sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Neil Stein officiating. Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
