Emerson Huey, 81, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1918, at Blodgett, son of Simon Peter and Elsie Ree Jennings Huey. He and Velma Varble were married Nov. 27, 1940, at Chaffee. She survives.
He completed 10 years of schooling. He moved with his parents to near Chaffee in 1935 and resided there until 1968 when he and his wife moved to Cape Girardeau. He followed road construction work and pipe line work for several years and was also in business as a self-employed truck driver and did contracting work.
He was in military service in World War II. He was a member of the Headquarters Co., Academic Regiment, the Infantry School and was stationed mostly in Benning, Ga. He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. He also was a member of Chaffee Lodge No. 615 AF&AM in Chaffee.
He also a member of the Senior Citizens of Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul David Huey and Teresa Huey of Brookfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ellen Marshall and the Rev. John Marshall of Springfield; five brothers, Dorris Huey of Whittier, N.C., Simon Huey of Aurora, Dennis Huey of Fulton, Ray Huey of Madison, Ill., Emit Huey of Olive Branch, Miss.; a sister, Faye Sanders of Delta; a grandson, John Marshall II and his wife, Jana Marshall of Springfield; a granddaughter, Rebekah Marshall of Springfield; and two great-grandsons, Caleb and Samuel Marshall of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, and also at Lynwood Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lynwood Baptist Church, with the Revs. John Marshall and Mark Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
