SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Elzadia Rice of Sikeston will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ponder Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Bob Smith and Carl Addison officiating. Burial will be in Portageville Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Burton officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.
Rice, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Portageville, daughter of Ben F. and Lettie Grooms Burton. She and Jesse Smith were married March 14, 1937. She later married Joe W. Rice, who died April 9, 1991.
Rice had worked at Van-Adkins Department Store in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Barkovitz Department Store in Hayti. She and her husband had also owned a truck stop and fish farm.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge, but attended Tanner Street Church of God after moving to Sikeston.
Survivors include a son, Garry Smith of Southaven, Miss.; two daughters, Wendy Cooke of Sikeston, Shirlene Frech of Sterling Heights, Ill.; two brothers, Henry Burton of St. Clair Shores, Mich., R.B. Burton of Portageville; her stepmother, Susie Burton of Portageville; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and granddaughter.
