MARBLE HILL -- The Rev. Elza J. Cook, 93, of Marble Hill died Saturday, Sept. 30, 1995, at the Bond Nursing Care Center. He was born July 5, 1902, at Hurricane, the son of Andy M. and Caroline Long Cook. On April 22, 1923, he married Hattie Cook. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1981...

MARBLE HILL -- The Rev. Elza J. Cook, 93, of Marble Hill died Saturday, Sept. 30, 1995, at the Bond Nursing Care Center.

He was born July 5, 1902, at Hurricane, the son of Andy M. and Caroline Long Cook. On April 22, 1923, he married Hattie Cook. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1981.

Cook was a member of the Hurricane Fork General Baptist Church. On July 29, 1961, he was ordained as a minister in the Old Liberty Association of General Baptist. Cook pastored at several area churches.Survivors include three sons, Elbert "Dude" Cook, Odie Cook and John Henry Cook, all of Marble Hill; two daughters, Anna Mae "Sis" Douglas and Mary Susan Long, both of Marble Hill; a sister, Mickey James of Dexter; 29 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, five brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today and all day Tuesday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hurricane Fork Baptist Church near Marble Hill. The Rev. Kenny Cook and the Rev. Jimmie Fulbright will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
