PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Elvis L. Hoffman, 86, of Perryville died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 10, 1919, at Perryville, son of Lawrence and Ida Schindler Hoffman. He first married Frances M. Peters Jan. 21, 1946. She died Feb. 28, 1980. She later married Wilma Vajdos Oct. 17, 1982. She died Oct. 27, 1999...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Elvis L. Hoffman, 86, of Perryville died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 10, 1919, at Perryville, son of Lawrence and Ida Schindler Hoffman. He first married Frances M. Peters Jan. 21, 1946. She died Feb. 28, 1980. She later married Wilma Vajdos Oct. 17, 1982. She died Oct. 27, 1999.

Hoffman had been owner/operator of Hoffman Upholstery and of Gebhardt and Hoffman MFA Station. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, life member of VFW, past post commander of American Legion, Rotary, and former member of Knights of Columbus.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Hoffman of Cape Girardeau, David Hoffman of Perryville, Bruce Hoffman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Marsha Buchheit of Jackson; two stepsons, Ray Vajdos of Pacific Groves, Calif., Allan Vajdos of Ganado, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. today, and Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. The wake will be at 7 tonight, and the rosary will be recited at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post 4282.
