Elvin Eaker

Elvin Elmer "Dib" Eaker, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Marble Hill, Mo., son of Noah and Ollie Shelton Eaker.

He and Elsie Loos were married Sept. 1, 1930, in Benton, Mo. She died April 21, 2003.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked at a shoe factory in Cape Girardeau, then was a bus driver for the Trailways Bus Line. He also worked at the Town Pump and cooked on a riverboat for seven years. He also drove a street sweeper for the city of Cape Girardeau.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to hunt quail and pheasant and fish for crappie and trout.

He is survived by a daughter, Peggy (Burl) Medlock of Cape Girardeau; a brother, George W. (LoraLee) Eaker of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Jim (Kay) Medlock of St. Charles, Mo., Scott (Karen) Medlock of Odessa, Mo., Julie (Roger) Dale of Jackson; six great-grandchildren, A.J. and Joey Medlock of St. Charles, Powell and Reagan Medlock of Odessa, Chelsea and Jordan Dale of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery will full military rites.

Memorials may be made to the Living Hope or Southeast Hospital Hospice.
