THEBES, Ill. -- Elsie M. Lingle, 87, of Thebes passed away at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020, at her home.
She was born Dec. 14, 1932, in McClure, Illinois, (Picayune Island) to Henry and Melissa Porter Lamb. She married Ray Lingle on Dec. 28, 1951. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1974.
For 25 years, Elsie was a secretary at Hanover Elementary School in Streamwood, Illinois. She had also worked in admitting at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Illinois, and later volunteered at Southeast Hospital as a children's advocate in the CASA program. Elsie loved to crochet and do crossword puzzles. She was a member of Elgin Christian Singles Group for many years and also of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Deb (Ron) Figgins of Springfield, Illinois, and Terry Shafer of Thebes; son, Greg (Angie) Lingle of Tamms, Illinois; grandchildren, Kraig (Natasha) Shafer of Tamms, Amy (Jeromey) Sitton of Thebes, Jared (Sheridan) Lingle of Crestview, Florida, and Brittany (Phillip) Shoaff of Edwardsville; stepgrandchildren, Andrew (Bethany) Figgins of Ellisville, Missouri, and Laurel Figgins of Petersburg, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jordan Shafer, Chloe Shafer, Maisie Sitton, Eli Sitton, Gracie Lingle, Kali Lingle, Claire Shoaff, Vivian Shoaff, Reece Grooms, Gabe Figgins and Luke Figgins: 40 loving nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and -nephews; and four sisters-in-law, Bernice, Helen, Cathy and Clyda.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Miller, Georgia Lovell, Leona Marshall, Isabel Jordan, Mary Lamb and Shelby Lamb; brothers, Eugene Lamb, Gerald Lamb and Donald Lamb; son-in-law, Jim Eickstaedt; five nephews; and one niece.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, 829 N. West End Blvd.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brent Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
Memorial donations may be made to Sandy Creek Church Christmas Shoebox Program or Carmi Baptist Children's Home. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
