Elsie A. Barrett, 94, of Jackson passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 6, 1920, in Jackson, to August Henry and Martha Ann Snider Friedrich. She and Carl A. Barrett were married Jan. 28, 1946. They had been married 39 years when Carl passed away Aug. 30, 1985.

Elsie attended Jackson schools. She worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Co. in Jackson, then worked for the Jackson School District. In 1965, she opened Playmate's Daycare which she operated until retiring in 1987.

She was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school 20 years and was active in the women's fellowship. Her other affiliations in Jackson include American Legion Auxiliary, JG Card Club and Garden Club.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Carol Fortman of Bernie, Missouri, and Betty Jo (Robert) Vander Bol of Campbell, Missouri; a granddaughter, Abbie Jo Vander Bol of Cape Girardeau; and a dear sister-in-law, Shirley Friedrich of Jackson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, V.C., August, Ray and George Friedrich, Tillie Ludwig, Irene Wolfenkoehler and Margaret Goodson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Revs. Mindy Kiepe and Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to Emanuel UCC.
