Elmer Marion Sample, 93, of Missouri Veterans Home died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 10, 1908, at Patton, Mo., son of George and Nettie Conrad Sample. He and Virginia I. Wilkinson were married April 19, 1952, in Piggott, Ark. She died April 24, 2001.
Sample had worked at Hutson Furniture Co. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Allan Sample and George Sample of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Karen Burton of Olive Branch, Ill.; a half brother, Paul Barks of Jackson, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
There is no visitation.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Nick Perry officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Delta Team of Missouri National Guard in Cape Girardeau.
