Elmer Fisher

Elmer Joseph Fisher, 82, of Gordonville died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Glennon, Mo., the son of George and Blanche Horrell Fisher. He married Irene Francis DeBrock on Nov. 27, 1946, at St. Anthony's Church in Glennon.

Elmer served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator in the European Theatre during World War II. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson. He was an avid hunter, and his work as a carpenter was his passion, operating Fisher Construction Co. until his retirement in 1986. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and followed them all of his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Cornelius (Sonny) and Barbara Fisher of Jackson; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Les Carlton of Gordonville; three grandchildren, Christy Brugger, Angie Carlton and Clint Carlton; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Brugger. Also surviving are two sisters, Alma Nenninger of Glennon and Mabel Byland of Norfolk, Va.

Three brothers, Leonard, Hubert and Charles Fisher, predeceased him.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Mo. Parish prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Glennon with Monsignor Ed Eftink officiating.

Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Team and VFW Post 5900 of Marble Hill.
