Elizabeth R. Bader, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Haines, Ore., the daughter of Henry Clay and Ona Carroll Robinson. She was married to George B. Bader Jr. on Oct. 20, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1980. At one time, the family owned the northernmost cotton plantation in the U.S.
In 1950, she became the first woman licensed as a commodity broker for Merrill Lynch. She later managed a brokerage office in Cape Girardeau for R.J. O'Brien Inc., retiring in 1975. She served on the boards of the Salvation Army and St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, P.E.O.. and GFWC Quest Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn W. Stevens of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Alwyn E. Wolfarth of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Dixie B. Banks of Bedford, N.Y., and Judith B. Jones of Fairview, Kan.; two grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Monday at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville, Mo.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville.
