Glueck Schmitt, was born July 2, 1948, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at her home in Chaffee at the age of 71 years. Elaine graduated from Chaffee Senior High in 1966. She worked for Thorngate Ltd. in Cape Girardeau and retired after receiving her 41-years-of-service award. CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Elaine Schlegel, daughter of the late William F. and Adella M. Glueck Schmitt, was born July 2, 1948, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at her home in Chaffee at the age of 71 years.

Elaine graduated from Chaffee Senior High in 1966. She worked for Thorngate Ltd. in Cape Girardeau and retired after receiving her 41-years-of-service award. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Missouri.

She was an avid animal lover, especially "Miss Sarge," and was a member of the ASPCA, Farm Sanctuary and the Humane Society. She was a coach for the Mini Blues Softball League in New Hamburg. She loved to donate to Shriners and Ronald McDonald House charities.

On Dec. 3, 1987, she was united in marriage to Larry "Sarge" Schlegel in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Nov. 4, 2012.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle Daniel of Cape Girardeau and Rachael Daniel (Chris Bittle) of Merriam, Kansas; stepson, Jon Jeffry Schlegel; sister, Paula Worley of Millersville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry "Hammer" Glueck, G.P. Glueck, Bernard Kern, Gary Kluesner, Grant Jaynes and Ray Spies.
