ADVANCE -- Edwin J. Kassel, 85, of Clayton, La., formerly of Advance, died Monday, May 3, 1993, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, La.
He was born Dec. 23, 1907, at Uniontown, son of Christian Phillip and Sulameth Hopfer Kassel. He and Hazel Warnaka were married Aug. 31, 1934. She died June 17, 1985.
Kassel farmed in the Advance area, and was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Chaffee. He moved to Louisiana in 1965. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Natchez, Miss.
Survivors include two sons, Bill and Willard Kassel of Clayton; two daughters, Cora Pennington of Natchez, Charolette Rhodes of Jackson; a sister, Elda Niswonger of Advance; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers and four sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Jackson. The Rev. Lawrence Eatherton will officiate, with burial in Memmorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:30-9 p.m. today.
