ESSEX -- Edward E. McGarity, 81, of Essex, died Wednesday, July 10, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Russellville, Ark., son of James and Myrtle Robinson McGarity. He and Barbara Sherrill were married Oct. 14, 1950, in Russellville.
McGarity moved to Essex in 1947 from Russellville. He was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of Castor River General Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, teacher and Sunday School superintendent.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis McGarity of Sikeston, Ralph McGarity of Paducah, Ky., Randy McGarity of Essex; two daughters, Sharon Gill of Cape Girardeau, Lisa Wethington of Okinawa, Japan; a brother, James McGarity of Sikeston; a sister, Bobbie McAnulty of Sikeston; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, brother and two sisters.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Dale McFarland and H. Worth officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
