EDWARD L. HELTON

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Edward L. Helton, 43, of Mounds died Tuesday, September 29, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 26, 1954, in Olmsted, Ill., the son Charles and Bessie Sheppard Helton.

He was a sergeant with the Mounds Police Department and was a former officer on the Olmsted Police Department. Helton was a member of the Olmsted Freewill Pentecostal Church, the Fraternal Order of Police and Laborers Local 773 in Cairo.

Survivors include his mother, Bessie Helton Cauhorn of Mounds; three daughters, Patricia Dickerson, Amanda Helton and Andrea Helton, all of Mounds; a son, Rodney D. Helton of Mounds; six brothers, Arthur Helton of Cairo, Norman Helton of South Carolina, Jerry Helton of Marion, Wayne Helton of Olmsted, Dale Helton of Metropolis and Gary Helton of Smithland, Ky.; and a sister, Barbara Latham of Olmsted.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Russell Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
