COBDEN -- Edward C. Smith, 85, of Cobden, died Thursday, May 11, 1995, at his home.
He was born Feb. 10, 1910, at Tamms, son of Robert and Vina Whitaker Smith. He and Lena Pearl Chamness Ridgeway were married May 7, 1966, at Tamms. She died Oct. 14, 1982.
Smith was retired from GM&O Railroad and the Illinois Game Refuge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cobden.
Survivors include two daughters, Pearl Hagler of Tamms, Ollie McFarland of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Edward Smith Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., Dewey Smith of Nuremberg, Germany; two brothers, Ralph and Melvin Smith of Tamms; a sister, Irene Pettit of Mounds; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, and Sunday from 1 p.m. to service time.
