JACKSON -- Edna Catherine Kasten, 101, of Jackson died Saturday, Dec. 16, 1995, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 17, 1894, at Columbia, Ill., daughter of William Langehennig and Emma Schmidt. On Aug. 12, 1939, she married Louis W. Kasten, who preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1990.
She was a graduate of the State Normal School in Cape Girardeau and taught English for two years at Jackson High School, one year at Elsinore and 22 years at East St. Louis, Ill., High School.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and served in a number of capacities, including president, and was also a past president of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Thursday Literary Club and P.E.O. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and was a charter member of the Riverside Regional Library Board, on which she served until 1979. She was named Jackson's Leading Lady of 1959 by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Kasten and Vernon L. Kasten; both of Jackson; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a great-grandson.
Visitation is after 8 a.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson with Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
