LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Edgar Stoverink, 55, of Leopold passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born July 23, 1961, in Cape Girardeau, son of Lawrence Herman and Magdalen Adelheld Hinkebein Stoverink. He and Cori Smith were married April 20, 1996, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold.

Edgar worked for 25 years as a welder and dock hand for Missouri Dry Dock, and he and his wife were owners of the Leopold Country Store for 13 years.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church; St. Isidore Knights of Columbus 5898, serving as inside guard for 22 years; Missouri National Horseshoe Pitching Association; and the SEMO Horseshoe Pitching Association.

Survivors include his wife, Cori Stoverink of Leopold; sons, Wesley Stoverink and Howard (Crystal) Smith, both of Leopold; daughters, Tracy (Jason) Cook, Nita (Billy) Castile of Leopold, Jena (Kyle) Weber of Kansas City, Missouri, and Cassi (Truman) Gipson of Glenallen, Missouri; brothers, Tony (Darlene) Stoverink of Leopold, Steve (Gina) Stoverink of Malden, Missouri, Alan (Ramona) Stoverink of Marble Hill, Missouri, and Terry (Michele) Stoverink of Glennon, Missouri; sisters, Geraldine (John Jr.) Bohnsack of Whitewater, Kathy Chapman of Benton, Arkansas, Dorothy (Michael) VanGennip of Glennon, Susie (Tim) Lukefahr of Leopold and Patsy (Steve) Birk of Gordonville; sister-in-law, Linda Stoverink of Leopold; and 10 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Arnold and Eugene Stoverink; and brother-in-law, Tom Chapman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, with Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill is in charge of arrangements.
