Edgar W. Hecht, age 78, of New Wells, entered his heavenly home Monday, March 31, 2003, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Edgar W. Hecht, age 78, of New Wells, entered his heavenly home Monday, March 31, 2003, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Edgar was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Altenburg, Mo., son of William H. and Louise Swan Hecht. He and Ruby E. Starzinger were married Oct. 12, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Loving survivors include his wife, Ruby; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Marvalene Hecht of New Wells; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Marvin McMillan of Friedheim, Dianne and H.W. Meyr of Cape Girardeau, Beverly and Gene Koenig of Perryville, Mo.; a brother, Eugene Hecht of Jackson; three sisters, Edna Culp of St. Louis, Norma Mueller of Frohna, Mo., and Doris Sullivan of Jackson.

Also surviving, are 10 grandchildren, Amy Cattoor and husband Jared, Jessica Ponder and husband Dan, Jon McMillan, Elizabeth Meyr, Kristen Koenig and friend Tom Canter, Justin Koenig, Lindsey Koenig, Tara Trapp and husband Craig, Andrew Hecht, Elise Hecht; and a great-granddaughter, Catryn Cattoor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ben Hecht, an infant brother; and two grandchildren, Amanda Hecht and Aaron McMillan.

Edgar was a private first class in the United States Army from June 1946 to May 1947. He served in Japan during the end of World War II.

Edgar was self-employed in the dairy business for many years. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and Mid-America Dairy Association.

A member of Immanuel Church for over 50 years, he formerly sang in the church choir, was active in the Fellowship Club, and held various church offices. He was an avid fisherman and greatly enjoyed being with his family and friends.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Immanuel Church in New Wells.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, with a Missouri Military Honors service.

The family requests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Missouri Veterans Home Alzheimer's Unit.
