SIKESTON, Mo. -- Edgar I. Culbertson, 77, of Sikeston died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Sikeston, son of Earl and Elizabeth Johnson Culbertson. He and Margaret Jane Middleton were married May 8, 1947. She died March 24, 1976. He and Nedria McCain Vanover were married Aug. 11, 1984...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Edgar I. Culbertson, 77, of Sikeston died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Sikeston, son of Earl and Elizabeth Johnson Culbertson. He and Margaret Jane Middleton were married May 8, 1947. She died March 24, 1976. He and Nedria McCain Vanover were married Aug. 11, 1984.

Culbertson served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded five Bronze Stars, three Overseas Service Bars, and a Victory Ribbon.

After discharge from the military with the rank of colonel, he returned to Sikeston High School and graduated in 1947.

He was a journeyman sheetmetal worker 25 years with Sheetmetal workers Union Local 36 in St. Louis. He formerly worked for Max Ellison Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Co.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Culbertson of Sikeston, Tim Culbertson of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Cathy Vent of Jackson, Tenn., Barbara Culbertson of Sikeston; two stepdaughters, FerRonda Staggs and Kim Propst of Sikeston; a brother, Paul Culbertson of Sikeston; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two stepsons, two brothers, and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with military rites provided by Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard Unit.
