CHAFFEE -- Funeral for Earnest Freemon Garrett of Kirksville was held April 21 at Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster. Payton M. Smyser officiated. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery at Kirksville.

Garrett, 78, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
He was born July 6, 1920, near Downing, son of Peter and Eva Saulsbury Garrett. He and Gladyes Roney were married in 1949. She died in 1996.
Garrett was employed 27 years with Peoples Energy and Coke Co. in Chicago. After retiring he moved to Chaffee, and later moved to Kirksville.
He was a member of American Legion Post 890 in DesPlaines, Ill., and Masonic Lodge 615 at Chaffee. He served with the U.S. Army in Africa during World War II.
Survivors include a brother, Avie Garrett of Memphis, Mo.; two sisters, Wilma of Kirksville, Mary of Lancaster; and a friend, Iris Dotson of Kirksville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
