MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Earlene M. Verble, 82, of Mound City died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, Ill. She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Grahamville, Ky., daughter of Grover and Katie Ratcliff Smither. She was married to Marion Verble, who preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1998...

MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Earlene M. Verble, 82, of Mound City died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, Ill.

She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Grahamville, Ky., daughter of Grover and Katie Ratcliff Smither. She was married to Marion Verble, who preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1998.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mound City.

Verble is survived by a daughter, Charolotte Brennecke of New Bloomfield, Mo.; four brothers, Bennie Smither of Des Plaines, Ill., Jessie Smither of Cape Girardeau, James Smither of Memphis, Tenn., and Paul Smither of Cairo; one sister, Kathryn Javoroski of Crystal Falls, Mich.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-grandson.

Visitation is at noon Thursday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Archie Buckingham officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
