Earl L. Volkerding, 87, of Grand Rapids, Mich., passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Spectrum Health Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Gordonville, Mo., son of Robert and Helen Gruenberg Volkerding. He married Dorothy Little in 1944 in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Volkerding grew up in Cape Girardeau and later moved to Washington, D.C., where he was a graduate of Ben Franklin Accounting School of Washington, D.C.
He then worked for the Civil Service in the accounting department while living in Cobb Island, Md. He then moved to Grand Rapids where he worked in a private accounting firm. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Volkerding of Grand Rapids; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Gale Volkerding of Grand Rapids, John and Sharon Volkerding of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Richard Volkerding of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Kevin, John Damon, Cindy and Anne Rose and Holly Volkerding.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Volkerding.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Rev. Douglas Breite of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau will officiate.
Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
