THEBES, Ill. -- Earl "Fuzz" Benefield, 91, of Thebes died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Integrity Healthcare in Carbondale, Illinois.

He was born April 4, 1929, in McClure, Illinois, to Clarence "Monk" and Bertha Phillips Benefield. He married Laverne "Pooch" Kaufman on Dec. 10, 1955. She preceded him in death May 17, 2018.

He farmed with his brother Paul and also worked as a carpenter for many years for Bud Pearce. Fuzz was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a great neighbor.

Survivors include daughters, Connie (David) Newell and Lisa (Guy) Lesch; granddaughters, Stacy (John) Davis, Kelli Holloway, Ashley (Matthew) Follis and Lindsay Newell; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Bryce, Kylie, Kiersten, Mallory, Blayne, Adalyn, Kinleigh and Lincoln; brother, Bill (Goldie) Benefield; sisters, Virginia Schearf, Clara (Bob) Tucker and Alice (Dave) Green; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Charles, Lawrence and Paul Benefield; and a sister, Louise Matlock.

A graveside service for Earl "Fuzz" Benefield was held Wednesday at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, with Pastor Zack Strong officiating. Interment followed.
