Stephens, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 28, 1912, at McGee, son of James G. and Leada Trafford Stephens. He and Effie Wymer were married Feb. 11, 1937, at Zalma.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Stephens of McGee; two daughters, Lucille Andrews of McGee, Marie Robertson of Marshfield; two brothers, Claude Stephens of Advance, Lowell Stephens of Zalma; two sisters, Trella Shirrell of Advance, Opha Young of St. Louis, and five grandchildren.
