SIKESTON -- Funeral for Durwood White Sr. of Sikeston will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery at Essex, with military graveside rites by VFW Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff.
White, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born March 4, 1929, near Salcedo, son of Ray and Gladys Hutchason White. He and Mattie Jean Moore were married Nov. 26, 1950.
White worked at Malone and Hyde 28 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Ex-POWs, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Durwood White Jr. of Miner, Donald White of Sikeston; a daughter, Barbara Yant of Matthews; a brother, Bobby White of Owensboro, Ky.; two sisters, Bonnie Bartlett and Jo Pankey of Dexter; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
