Druetta "Johnnie" Messmer, 95, of Cape Girardeau died at 2:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau after a prolonged illness.
She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Chaffee, Mo., to George and Mathilda (Goetz) Dumey. "Johnnie" and Harry Messmer were united in marriage on July 15, 1936, and enjoyed 42 years of marriage. He preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1978.
Mr. Messmer was an owner of Tucker Truck line. The Messmers were long-standing parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
"Johnnie" Messmer is survived by nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Galaway of Menifee, Calif.; Alma Rae Johnson of Boca Raton, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dumey of Bloomfield, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Danny Dumey of Benton, Mo.; Kae Harrell of Chesapeake, Ohio; Martha Castleman and Laverne Liebele, both of St. Louis; and Mr. and Mrs. John "Butch" Dumey of Chaffee.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Thomas Kiefer celebrant and Msgr. Richard Rolwing assisting.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
