Dr. Warren Salzmann

JACKSON, Mo. -- Dr. Douglas Warren Salzmann, Jackson chiropractor, 75, died at his home Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002.

He was born April 11, 1927, at Shawano, Wis., son of John Gottlieb Salzman and Alma M. Raddant. He and Paula Strickland were married Jan. 23, 1949, at First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo.

Dr. Salzmann graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 1958, and was a member of Beta Chi Rho Chiropractic Fraternity. Dr. Salzmann moved with his family to Jackson on Labor Day weekend 1958 to establish a chiropractic practice and served the people of this community until his retirement in February 1997.

Dr. Salzmann served in the U.S. Army during World War II and again in the Korean War serving as a medic with the 101 Evacuation Hospital.

Following his graduation he became a member of the American Chiropractic Association and served his profession in several capacities receiving the following awards over the course of his long service to his fellow man as a doctor of chiropractic.

He was presented an award for outstanding service by Missouri State Chiropractic Association in June 1979, and chosen as Outstanding Chiropractor for the year 1984 by Southeast Missouri Chiropractors.

Dr. Salzmann was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation of Fort Worth, Texas, in July 1964, where on occasion he was a speaker at their seminars.

He served several terms as representative to Missouri Chiropractic Association of Southeast Missouri Chiropractic Association. He was responsible for conducting educational seminars for his profession, bringing many outstanding educators to this area as speakers.

Survivors include his wife, Paula; a son, David of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Donna Catt of Sikeston, Mo., Dr. Diana Salzmann-Martin of Marietta, Ga., and Deborah D'Onofrio of Benton, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Anthony Catt of Belleville, Ill., Matthew Catt of Little Rock, Ark., Anthony, Stasia and Vittoria D'Onofrio of Alexander, Ark., Miranda Martin of Marietta, Devon Salzmann of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Pearl Spang of Bradenton, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a sister, and three brothers.

Dr. Salzmann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the time of his death.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Dr. Grant Gillard will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
