Thomas Jackson "Doc" Omohundro, 84, of Jackson passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1925, in Elsberry, Mo., son of Richard Norton and Anna Elizabeth Nelson Omohundro. He and Joyce Mae Beatty were married July 11, 1948, in West Portal, N.J.

Doc was deployed to Germany during World War II in the Army of the United States, 71st Division, 3rd Army Infantry, and was the youngest second lieutenant in his division. He received an appointment to West Point from Rep. Clarence Cannon.

He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. He and his wife, Joyce, ran a private large and small animal veterinary practice in Vandalia, Mo., 20 years before moving to Jackson in 1971 to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He served there as a veterinary supervisor until his retirement in 1996.

He had been a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson since 1971 and was active in the men's group. He was also a proud 62-year member of Elsberry VFW Post 226, where both his parents were lifetime members.

Tom and Joyce resided on the west side of Jackson City Park. He liked to sit on their deck watching the birds and enjoyed the company of many who walked in the park.
