Dr. Miles died Nov. 11, 1998 at St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, MO. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, MO.He was born December 23, 1914 at Danville, IL, the son of Harvey T. and Eileen Maroney Miles.

He and the former Marion Bell of Johnston City, IL were married June 17, 1939 in Johnstown, PA.He was a graduate of Illinois College at Jacksonville, IL and Lincoln Chiropractic Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, IN. He attended college on a baseball scholarship but lettered in all sports. He played professional baseball in 1939-40 with the Cincinnati Reds farm club.

He served in the U. S. Army in World War II in 1943-45 as a member of the 316th Medical Battalion, 91st. Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy. He had the high honor of receiving a Battlefield Commission in Italy from General Mark Clark in 1944. He received the Bronze Star, Army Meritorious Service Medal, European-African Campaign Medal, Medical Infantry Badge, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After World War II, Dr. Miles taught at Lincoln Chiropractic College for two years, moved to Cape Girardeau in 1948 and opened an office at 512 Broadway. He retired in 1986.

As a member of the Kiwanis Club, Dr. Miles managed their Capaha Baseball team for five years in the early 1950's. When he was manager, he was instrumental along with other Kiwanis members in getting the grandstand built and lights installed at Capaha Park. He was an avid golfer for many years and was a scout for the New York Yankees.

He was a member of the VFW, Old St. Vincent's Church, American Chiropractic Society and the Humane Society.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; a sister, Betty Marchetti of Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Reed Miles of Monroe, N.C. and 25 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Johnson City, IL.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society or to Old St. Vincent's Church.
