CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Funeral service for Dr. G. Eugene Bahn of Cape Girardeau will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Charles Grant will officiate and burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Dr. Bahn died Tuesday at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was 84.
He was a born Nov. 23, 1906 in Cape Girardeau, the son of William and Kathleen Bahn. He married Margaret A. Linton in Kilmares, Scotland. She preceded him in death.
Dr. Bahn was reared in Cape Girardeau and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here.
He earned a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and also attended Colgate University.
He taught speech throughout the world, including a year in Thessolonica, Greece and three years at English University in Taiwan. He also taught in the speech department at Ohio State University prior to World War II.
He was renowned for compiling historical accounts passed down through generation by word of mouth.
During the siege of London in World War II, he was head of the Red Cross Rainbow Center in London. He also was a U.S. Army historian stationed for three years at Weisbaden, West Germany.
He taught in the speech department at Wayne State University for 25 years before retiring, and authored several books during his lifetime.
A brother, Dr. Charles Bahn of Prescott, Ariz., survives. Another brother, Louis Bahn, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Chapel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
