Dr. Dorothy Sievers

Dr. Dorothy J. Sievers, 80, of New York, N.Y., died Friday, May 25, 2007 at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, N.Y.

She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Oak Park, Ill., daughter of Ott and Vera Philipps Sievers.

Dr. Sievers grew up in Cape Girardeau. She graduated from high school in Denver. Dr. Sievers received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern University and a master of arts in clinical psychology from the University of New Mexico. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Sievers lived in New York City since 1964, and also in Columbus and Cincinnati. She was an adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Cincinnati and an assistant professor at New York Medical College, associate professor at Ferkauf Graduate School at Yeshiva University, associate with United Cerebral Palsy of New York City in child and adult programs. She also retired with a private practice as a psychologist.

Survivors include six cousins, Mary Masters of Cape Girardeau, Margaret Young of Bend, Ore., Inez Knott of Jackson, Margaret King of Jackson, Marvin Schoen of Oak Ridge, Geraldine Byron of St. Louis; a friend, Naomi Lorch of New York, N.Y.; and a beloved cat, Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside service will be at Cape County Memorial Park at noon Monday, with the Rev. David Schaffner officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
