Dr. Charles F. Wilson, age 87, died March 29, 2003, at Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 19, 1915, in Cape Girardeau to Charles G. Wilson and Nell Brooks Wilson. He attended the college demonstration school, SEMO College High, and received his bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University and his MD degree from Vanderbilt Medical School.
He married Anita W. Bartlum of Orlando, Fla., Sept. 11, 1940, and she preceded him in death. Following medical internships and residencies, he served in the U.S. Army as a medical officer in Europe during World War II.
In 1947, he opened his practice of internal medicine as a fourth- generation physician, with a great-grandfather and grandfather, as well as an uncle, preceding him in practice in Cape Girardeau.
Dr. Wilson was a member of Centenary Methodist Church and was active on the staff of both St. Francis Medical Center and Southeast Missouri Hospital and the Cape County Medical Society. He was a past member of the Rotary Club, Town Club, Missouri Medical Society, American Medical Society and Southern Medical Association.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles L. Wilson DMD and Bobbie S. Wilson of Cape Girardeau, and William B. Wilson and Suzy Wilson of Orlando; four grandchildren, Charles David Wilson of Cape Girardeau, Dennis A. Wilson of Mission, Kan., Sarah Wilson of Orlando and Matt Ruse of Greenville, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Wilson of Cape Girardeau and Sophia Brockmann of Mission.
There will be no visitation. A private memorial service is planned. Memorials should go to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. Ford & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
