MUNFORD, Tenn. — Dr. Ben Cauble, 80, of Munford, formerly of Anna-Jonesboro, Illinois, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at River Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Covington, Tennessee.
Ben was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Elco, Illinois, to Norman “Chick” and Florence Baldwin Cauble.
After graduating from Tamms (Illinois) High School in 1954, he attended Southern Illinois University, receiving his bachelor of science, master of science and doctorate in education. He has been a teacher, coach, principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum, superintendent of schools and a college instructor at Ball State University and University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
After retiring from public-school administration, Ben went back to college to earn his master of arts in English as a second language. In his second career as a corrections education instructor at Shawnee Correctional Facility, he was awarded the Illinois Correctional Education Association Teacher of the Year Award for Region III. After his “second” retirement, he and his wife, Nita, moved to Tennessee to be near his grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nita Dillman Cauble; two daughters, Lisa Cauble of Marion, Illinois, and Beth (Chuck) Bursi of Brighton, Tennessee; three grandsons, Jordan Munoz of San Antonio, Dustin Munoz and Dalton Munoz of Brighton; sister-in-law, Shirley Cauble of Marion; great-grandson, Jace Munoz of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ben was preceded in death by his brother, Norman “Lee” Cauble.
As a husband, father and friend, Ben will be dearly missed. His compassion and willingness to give so much of himself to others reflected the type of Christian man he was. His faith, family and friends were the joys of his life.
Visitation for Dr. Ben Cauble will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Covington Funeral Home in Tennessee and from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna, Illinois.
The funeral procession will leave Crain Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Monday for St. John’s Cemetery, where graveside services will be with Dee Armes officiating.
Memorials may be to a charity of the donor’s choice and envelopes will be accepted at both funeral homes and graveside.
Arrangements are entrusted to Crain Funeral Home in Anna for both Tennessee and Illinois.
