Doyle W. Sample, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at his home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, son of Leonard and Lola Mungle Sample. He and Cora Lee Moore were married June 16, 1957, in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Sample served in the National Guard.

He was a member of SEMO HOG organization and served seven years on the Cape Girardeau Senior Center board.

Mr. Sample was the retired owner of Sample Floor Covering and of Pops Pizza. He was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Lee Sample of Cape Girardeau; a son, Brad Sample of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Patti Sample Poole of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Cheryl Storm of Scott City, Kirsten Poole and Harley Sample of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Riley and Heaven Storm, all of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lindsey Sample; and a sister, Betty Niswonger.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Darrell Faire officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association and the Kidney Foundation.
