Douglas Scott Hancock, 35, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, in a plane crash in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

He was born Sept. 8, 1971, in Okinawa, Japan, son of Paul D. and Susan L. Benbow Hancock. He and Bianca Pi were married June 10, 2000, in St. Louis.

Doug grew up in Jackson, graduating from Jackson High School in 1989. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 311. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and advanced degrees in engineering and business from Washington University in St. Louis.

He worked for McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis before joining the McKenzie Co. in 2000. He started his own business consulting firm in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro.

Doug is survived by his wife; father and stepmother, Paul and Cathy Hancock of Jackson; mother and stepfather, Sue and Chuck Hinners of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Andy Hancock of Jackson; paternal grandmother, Eska Hancock of Cape Girardeau; and his extended Brazilian family, Alberto and Elisabeth Pi, Daniel Pi and Melissa Pi.

A memorial service will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
