BLOOMFIELD -- Dorthy Jean Layton, 69, of Bloomfield died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Bloomfield.
She was born June 15, 1929, at Fisk, daughter of James and Charlotte Grace Brannon. She and Elvis Layton were married April 1, 1946.
Layton was a member of First General Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Johnny Layton of Bloomfield, Sgt. J.A. Layton with the U.S. Army in Izmir, Turkey, Michael Layton of Sikeston; five daughters, Nancy Hartlein, Lottie Scroggins, Owdeia and Lisa Layton, all of Bloomfield, and Betty Layton of Claremore, Okla.
Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Brannon of Marble Hill, Gene Brannon of Salcedo; six sisters, Christine Campbell, Lena Hicks and Pat Young, all of Sikeston, Nancy Cochran of Marble Hill, Ruth Malone of Rockford, Ill., Linda Arthur of Doniphan; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First General Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Burial will be in Link Cemetery near Bloomfield.
