MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Dorothy J. Wilson, formerly of Bollinger County, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, 1 week and 5 days.

She left this sinful world to go to a mansion in Glory where parting is no more. Weep not, dear friends, but live so that you will be prepared to meet her at the gates of eternity.

Think not of Dorothy in her bed of clay but, rather, resting in the arms of Jesus. Indeed, it is hard to give her up, but the Lord's will be done.

Dorothy was born May 31, 1934, to William E. Ray and Dorris S. Neilson Lincoln in Lawrence Township, Bollinger County, Missouri. She was the apple of her daddy's eye and her mamma's little girl.

Dorothy married Kenneth E. Cook on May 31, 1952. To this happy union were born four children. The eldest of these is Catherine (Dwight) Craft of Jackson. Next came Joe Cook (Brenda Thiele) of Cape Girardeau and another daughter, Sue Bohnsack (Rick Matthews) of Prescott Valley, Arizona. The best was saved for last: a loving son, Tony (Lisa) Cook of Crump.

Dorothy later married Robert O. Wilson on Oct. 17, 1987, who preceded her in death Aug 25, 2014.

She was fearless and fun, exciting, and had a temper like lightning and thunder, followed by calm. If Dorothy considered you a friend, she was a good friend. To some, she was a mean heifer. One either liked Dorothy, or one didn't. One knew where one stood. Even those who sparred with her admired Dorothy's spunk and tenacity. She tackled everything that came her way with gusto and flamboyance. When she walked into the room, everyone took notice of her.

She was always the first to the polls on election day to cast her ballot for the Democrat. She was a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. Her motto was "Vote early and vote often." Her family is sure she will continue to vote Democratic from the grave.

Dorothy was a member of the County Line Baptist Church and was part of a missionary team in Haiti for a time. In her 40s she returned to school and attained her nursing degree. She was at the top of her class at the school of nursing. She took that education and worked at Southeast Hospital for numerous years. She advanced to be the operating room surgeon assistant and, more notably, worked side by side with top-notch cardiologists and orthopedists. Dorothy was well respected in her field. It was one of her greatest loves. Dorothy would often regale the family with stories of the OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin sisters and one brother, William R. Lincoln, and his spouse, Shelba J. Lincoln. She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Cook.

Dorothy leaves six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends to mourn her departure with sadness and sorrow. They know she has been received into the bosoms of her family departed before her.

Dorothy requested there be no formal service, so a private graveside service will be held.

Memorials may be given to County Line Baptist Church, 22925 BCR 312, Marble Hill, MO 63764.

Hutchings Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
