Dorothy Thompson, 78, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at her daughter's home in Marble Hill.

She was born Sept. 7, 1927, at Indian Creek, daughter of Clarence and Beulah Trickey McLaird. She and Harry Thompson Jr. were married on July 20, 1945. He died Jan. 21, 1971.

Thompson worked at the former International Shoe Company in Jackson and the former Jackson Hosiery Mill. She was the receptionist 18 years for the late Dr. Walter Hutton, and then worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was a member of the Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers' Association, the National Rural Letter Carriers' Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Cape Girardeau and served as a volunteer at Southeast Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Metheny of Marble Hill, Mo., and Georgia South of Cocoa, Fla.; a sister Earmel Lansdown of Aurora, Mo.; a brother, George McLaird of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Revs. Scott Moon and Michael Kelpe officiating. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge.
