Dorothy Hayes
Dorothy M. Hayes, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of the Rev. Bascom L. and Essie Townsend Patrick. She and Herman W. Hayes were married May 21, 1942, in Englewood, Calif. He died Feb. 4, 1979.
Hayes was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She played piano for numerous churches, taught piano lessons and played with many gospel groups.
Survivors include a son, Larry Hayes and wife Angie of Jackson; two sisters, Betty Olson of St. Marie, Calif., Patsy M. Conway of Englewood, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and former husband and good friend Harold Ellis of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Beverly Sue Lewis in 1984; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Hale officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
