ORAN, Mo. -- Dorothy Jane Griffin, 83, of Oran died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Harrison, Ark., to Roy and Jane Leet Harper. She married L.E. "Dude" Griffin Nov. 29, 1946. He preceded her in death April 17, 1992...

ORAN, Mo. -- Dorothy Jane Griffin, 83, of Oran died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Harrison, Ark., to Roy and Jane Leet Harper. She married L.E. "Dude" Griffin Nov. 29, 1946. He preceded her in death April 17, 1992.

Dorothy was a retired elementary school principal in Oran. She was in education more than 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Oran, Retired Teachers Association, Regional Library Board, Oran HUD Board, a Sunday school teacher more than 55 years, and a volunteer with First Baptist Clothes Closet.

Survivors include a son, Roy W. "Bud" (Regina) Griffin of Sikeston, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Sheriff of Kingsland, Texas; a sister-in-law, Linda Harper of Sikeston; five grandchildren, Kellee (Nathan) Holmes of Oran, Tara Griffin of Hutto, Texas, Jeremy Griffin of Cape Girardeau, Elizabeth Griffin of Benton, Mo., Adrienne (Brooks) Pratt of New Madrid, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Linden Holmes, Logan Griffin and Addison Pratt; and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Ben Harper.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Oran, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 461, Oran, MO 63771.
